I was on a cross-country trip last July and took 3A on the recommendation of the owner of a small motel in Creston (can't remember his name, but he was a rider, too). The route wasn't part of our plans, but we had a little extra time. Boy am I glad we took his advice - what a ride! After we got to the ferry, my friend (on a HD Road Glide) and I looked at each other and both said simultaneously, "Just what the doctor ordered!"
The almost constant twisties got my heart pumping and my mouth grinning. I would recommend that anyone in the area take the time for this ride. I rode it on a Saturday in mid-July and I didn't see the traffic that others have mentioned in their reviews, but we left from Creston about 8am, so we may have beaten the crowds.

This is an absolutely fantastic Route to take. There are so many bikers that take this road but not only that, Don\'t just go straight to the ferry . Nope STOP in Crawford Bay! Its a tourist heaven with tons of Handcrafted stuff. Bikers would most likely like the Celts and Vikings Store there. The store owner is wonderful and has lots of really cool handcrafted leather armour and other gifts from medieval to modern day as well as some really cool costumes. There is a blacksmith, a glassblower, a fantastic bed and breakfast called Deer Ridge lodge to stay at and the famous Black Salt Restaurant.

Great road with many corners and good flow. But too much traffic, few passing zones that cagers approve of, lots of gravel dredged on road on inside corners, frequent drivers cutting across the lines and, if you do get phoned, in you are trapped at the Crawford Bay ferry terminal. Slippery surface when it rains.

I absolutely love riding this road! I live in the area and have the pleasure of riding it quite often. There are plenty of nice corners along with beautiful scenery. The only drawback is that traffic on this road can be horrendous in the summer, especially on weekends. There are not too many viable passing areas, so I would suggest riding this road during the week or in the off-season if possible. Other than that it is a great road and makes a perfect 4-5 hour round trip from Nelson.

Rated BC's # 1 motorcycling road in the Destination Highways series, and well deserving of that designation. Best ridden on weekdays mid-morning when enforcement is lightest. Lots of blind driveways in the built up areas to be cautious of, but overall still the best in BC!
