An alternative route back from the R62 towards Cape Town. This road is a little bumpy in places but not bad. It has two distinct passes and both are enjoyable in either direction. From Monatgu you head out along a B road past the wine farms and you arrive at Burgers pass, speedsters need to hit the anchors hard, this pass is a series of short straights and very tight switchbacks that climb up and over the mountains into the Koo valley. Once out past the Koo valley you start the climb out of Rooihoogte pass, a long,fairly steep in places typical pass with some lovely sweepers to get the knee down.

There are a couple of longish straights between the passes where you can get the blood pumping. Over all this road makes for a fun, if a little long, detour when returning to Cape Town.
